On the 15th of January 2024, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in Sierra Leone officially declared the commencement of its Annual School Census—an essential initiative designed to evaluate and improve the nation’s educational system.
Set to commence on Monday, the 22nd of January, and conclude on Friday, the 9th of February 2024, the Annual School Census will see enumerators visiting schools and educational institutions nationwide. The primary goal is to gather comprehensive data on schools, students, teachers, and infrastructure.
The information gathered will play a crucial role in shaping educational policies, ensuring effective resource allocation, and promoting equitable access to quality education for all children. This initiative aligns with the government’s dedication to fostering a strong educational environment and making well-informed decisions for the advancement of Sierra Leone’s education sector.
The Ministry underscores the significance of collaboration from school administrators, teachers, parents, and guardians throughout this period. Accurate and timely information is deemed essential for the success of the Annual School Census, contributing not only to effective planning but also to the overall improvement of the quality of education in the country.
