Project 1808, working together with Koinadugu College, has successfully hosted the Second Africa Liberation Day (ALD) Symposium in Kabala, bringing together speakers, students, organisations and community members from across and beyond Koinadugu District.

The event attracted a wide range of participants, both physically and online, creating a strong platform for discussion and learning. Organisers said the symposium focused on this year’s theme: “Restoring Dignity and Building Sovereignty: Empowering Our Indigenous Systems, Institutions, and Communities through Research, Leadership, and Development.”

Speakers at the event shared ideas that were described as insightful and thought-provoking. They spoke about the importance of strengthening African systems, promoting education, and building strong institutions that can support long-term development across the continent.

Participants also gained new understanding of how Africa can shape its future through culture, research, and economic empowerment. A key message repeated during the discussions was the importance of the “For Us, By Us” (FUBU) model, which encourages Africans to lead their own development and solutions.

Organisers thanked all speakers and participants for their contributions, noting that their involvement made the event impactful and meaningful.

Project 1808 and Koinadugu College said they remain committed to creating spaces for dialogue and action, as they continue to support efforts aimed at building a stronger and more self-reliant Africa.
