Masiaka Highway, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District, Sunday 15 September 2024 – His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has successfully harvested 7 tons of fish and various agricultural produce from his farm in Mafintha, showcasing his commitment to Sierra Leone’s Food Security Agenda. This significant event underscores the President’s dedication to leadership by example, as he continues to inspire Sierra Leoneans to embrace agriculture as a sustainable path to national food security.

During the harvesting ceremony, President Bio actively participated in the fish harvest, particularly catfish and tilapia. He highlighted the value of fish farming and encouraged citizens to invest in agriculture, even on a small scale. The President emphasized that local agricultural products are often more nutritious than imported alternatives, urging Sierra Leoneans to support and consume homegrown produce.

“Supporting made-in-Sierra Leone products benefits local farmers and boosts our economy. Agriculture is a viable business opportunity that anyone can engage in,” President Bio remarked. “The Feed Salone Initiative is a national program we should all embrace, regardless of political or regional affiliations.”

At the poultry section of the farm, Poultry Consultant Petemaa Sheriff revealed that the President’s farm produces an impressive 7,600 eggs daily. He also noted that the farm uses 100% organic, locally produced feeds, ensuring high-quality eggs for every household. Mr. Sheriff shared plans to expand operations to further increase production and announced that the farm offers technical support to those interested in fish, vegetable, and poultry farming.

In addition to fish and poultry, the farm produces a wide variety of vegetables, including potatoes and peppers. The President’s farm serves as a model for agricultural development, providing training in farming and poultry management, particularly for young people.

The event concluded with a showcase of the farm’s diverse products, including fish, vegetables, eggs, and other produce, all aimed at promoting food security and encouraging Sierra Leoneans to consider agriculture as a profitable venture.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Feed Salone Initiative, promoting self-sufficiency and empowering local farmers to play a central role in building a stronger and more resilient economy.
