The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has issued a statement denouncing the circulation of fake news on social media regarding an alleged increase in taxes for passengers traveling out of Sierra Leone. The Ministry clarified that the information is false and misleading.
According to the fake news, passengers were informed of an impending tax increase of approximately One Hundred and Sixty-Five Dollars (USD $165) effective from the 1st of December, 2023. However, the Ministry categorically stated that there are no plans to review taxes for passengers traveling in or out of Sierra Leone.
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation, in collaboration with the Summa Group of Companies SL Ltd., is committed to ensuring the affordability of air transport fare for travelers. The government aims to provide accessible and affordable travel options for all citizens and visitors.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard the false information and cautioned against spreading misinformation. It is crucial to rely on official sources and verified news outlets for accurate and reliable information.

The attention of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation has been drawn to a news making rounds on social media that there will be an increase in taxes of about One Hundred and Sixty-Five Dollars (USD $165 ) for all passengers travelling out of Sierra Leone effective 1st December,2023.
The Ministry wants to inform the general public that the aforementioned information is fake and misleading.
