Mandela Washington Fellow Saikou Suwareh Jabai has been granted honorary citizenship of the Athens-Clarke County in Georgia, US, by the city’s Mayor.
Mr. Jabai is among the ten Gambians currently participating in the prestigious Mandela Washington fellowship
He was selected by the U.S. Mission to the African Union to take part in this year’s program, joining a cohort of over 700 young African leaders from across the continent participating in the 2023 fellowship.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), which empowers young African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking opportunities. The program fosters collaboration and innovation among young leaders across Africa and the United States.
The six-week Institutes, hosted by college and university campuses across the United States, will support the development of Fellows’ leadership skills through academic study, workshops, mentoring, networking with U.S. leaders, and collaboration with local community members.
