Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, has highlighted the country’s economic progress during the 2026 African Consultative Group Meeting, where African leaders and global financial institutions gathered to discuss key economic issues.

At the high-level meeting, the minister spoke on major topics including macroeconomic stability, debt sustainability, and the impact of global economic shocks on African economies. He noted that Sierra Leone has made progress in fiscal discipline, reducing inflation, and stabilising the exchange rate.

Despite these gains, he stressed the need for continued international support to help sustain progress and strengthen the country’s economic resilience in the face of global challenges.

The meeting also gave African countries a platform to present shared priorities, including the need for more concessional financing, stronger climate resilience, and policies that support inclusive economic growth across the continent.

Minister Bangura reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to prudent economic management and ongoing collaboration with international partners to advance national development goals.

Overall, the consultative meeting served as an important forum for shaping economic cooperation and addressing challenges facing African economies.
