The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion have renewed calls for peace, unity and good governance as the country continues efforts to strengthen democracy and national cohesion.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders to discuss the importance of peaceful political participation, transparency and inclusive governance in Sierra Leone. Officials stressed that maintaining peace and stability remains important for national development and democratic progress.
Representatives from the ECSL highlighted the commission’s commitment to conducting credible and transparent electoral processes, while encouraging citizens and political actors to promote tolerance and non-violence. The Commission also reaffirmed its role in supporting democracy through free and fair elections.
The Peace Commission on its part called on Sierra Leoneans to continue embracing dialogue and mutual understanding, especially during political and national engagements. The institution noted that peacebuilding efforts require the support of political parties, civil society groups, the media and citizens across the country.
Stakeholders at the meeting also discussed the implementation of governance reforms and recommendations aimed at improving public trust in democratic institutions. Recent national conversations around electoral reforms and political dialogue have continued to shape governance discussions in Sierra Leone.
Both institutions emphasized that peace, accountability and cooperation among citizens and state institutions are necessary for Sierra Leone’s democratic future.
