The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion has announced that peace mediation talks between the Sierra Leone Government and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party will take place on October 16-18 in Freetown.
The APC had previously declared their decision to abstain from participating in any governance-related activities following the June 24th, 2023 election. They demanded reelection, full disclosure of disaggregated data published by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, and mediation by independent foreign bodies due to their distrust in local institutions.
In an effort to facilitate these talks, the Commonwealth, African Union (AU), and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will be arriving in Sierra Leone during the week of October 8th. The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, led by Rev. Shodankeh Johnson, will oversee the mediation process
