Taylor Swift Awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree by New York University

Taylor Swift, the American star singer, has been awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Fine Arts honoris causa) by New York University, USA. As a result, she will henceforth be addressed as Dr. Taylor Swift. During the 2022 commencement address, the 11-time Grammy Award winner encouraged graduates to embrace rejection, saying that her moments of rejection were as important as her successes. Swift, who started her music career at the age of 15, also spoke about the warnings she received from older members of the industry, the media, interviewers, and executives, stressing the importance of making mistakes and learning from them.

Dr. Taylor Swift expressed the importance of dismissal moments, explaining that as a child, she would simmer internally after not being invited to sleepovers. She advised the graduates to navigate their missteps and rejections, which could prepare them to chart their own path in life. She also thanked her parents and mentors, who had supported her from kindergarten to high school and throughout her music career.

In her speech, Dr. Taylor Swift emphasized the significance of protecting her private life fiercely and avoiding mistakes. She acknowledged that mistakes are natural and lead to the best things in life. She also spoke about missing opportunities and how working on herself and her music paid off. Dr. Taylor Swift encouraged graduates to try their best and learn from their mistakes, even when it seems challenging.
