No Water for Days: Guma Valley Confirms Extended Disruption in Freetown Communities

People living in different regions of Freetown are likely to face either low water pressure or no water supplies at all due to a technical problem on a transmission line, according to an announcement by the Guma Valley Water Company. On December 25, 2025, the power firm issued a public notice stating that it serves areas in Area East, Area Central, as well as areas in Area West that are affected by the disruption. According to Guma Valley Water Company, the problem is linked to a faulty valve on the 28-inch transmission pipeline located at the Spur Road Reservoir, a critical component of the city’s water distribution network.

The affected locations include Area East, stretching between East End Police and Wellington; Area Central, covering areas between Congo Cross and East End Police; and several parts of Area West, including Wilkinson Road and surrounding neighborhoods. Other impacted communities listed in the notice include Aberdeen, Murray Town, and nearby environs.

Guma Valley Water Company confirmed that maintenance work has already commenced and is being carried out by its technical team. The company expects repairs to be completed by Friday, December 26, 2025, after which normal water supply should be restored.

The management of this water utility company expressed regret at “any inconvenience caused” and especially at this time of year, which is in the Christmas season. The press statement assured residents that all efforts were being made “to ensure completion of works within the given time frame and to reinstate water supplies as soon as possible.” Additionally, they called on communities that have been affected to exercise patience and understanding as they work to resolve the problem and stabilize the transmission system.
