Opposition Chief Whip Questions Government Over Budget ‘Kickbacks’

The Opposition in Parliament has raised fresh concerns about how the government is spending public money. During the debate on the 2025/2026 National Budget, Opposition Chief Whip Abdul Karim Kamara asked a direct question that has now captured public attention: “Who is collecting the kickbacks?”

Kamara said many ministries and government offices are showing spending patterns that do not match their results. He argued that some of the budget figures suggest possible misuse of funds, and he called on the government to explain why key sectors still struggle despite receiving large allocations.

He also pointed out differences in how funds were shared among government departments. According to him, some offices appear overfunded while essential services—such as health, water, and education—continue to face serious challenges.

The Chief Whip said these issues weaken public trust and show the need for stronger oversight. His comments follow growing public concern about transparency and accountability in government spending.

Many Sierra Leoneans are now waiting to see how the government will respond, and whether any independent review or audit will be launched to address these concerns.
