The University of Makeni Students’ Representative Council under the leadership of Edmond Alim B Fornah is preparing to host Hon. Mohamed Siddie Tunis, former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, as the keynote speaker at the upcoming fundraising lunch and sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Office and a Students’ Resource Center. The event will take place on 26th October 2024 at the Fatima Auditorium, University of Makeni, at 12:00 PM.

This landmark occasion is organized by the University of Makeni Students’ Representative Council (SRC), as part of their ongoing effort to fulfill Goal Two of their ambitious “SRC We Want Manifesto.” The goal aims to promote sustainable infrastructural development in the Intrest of students.

Hon. Mohamed Siddie Tunis, known for his distinguished service as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, was invited to participate in this event due to his commitment to youth empowerment and education in Sierra Leone and across the West African region. His presence will highlight the significance of the project, which is set to enhance the university experience for students at Makeni.

A Milestone for Student Leadership and Development
The construction of the SRC Office and Students’ Resource Center represents a significant step forward for the university. These facilities will provide students with essential resources, including Internet, academic materials, and a dedicated office where student leaders can meet, plan, and advocate for student interests.

The SRC Office will serve as a central hub for student governance, enabling student leaders to coordinate activities, address student concerns, and improve communication between the student body and the university administration. The Students’ Resource Center, on the other hand, will offer a conducive environment for academic research, and personal development.

The project aligns with the broader goals of the “SRC We Want” manifesto, which calls for improved student services, better access to academic resources, and the enhancement of student leadership.

Hon. Tunis will deliver a keynote address, focusing on the importance of education, student leadership, and youth empowerment in nation-building. His experience as ECOWAS Speaker and his dedication to regional development will provide a valuable perspective on how initiatives like this can contribute to the growth of future leaders in Sierra Leone.

The fundraising luncheon will also aim to raise the necessary financial support to ensure the successful completion of the project. Stakeholders, including alumni, community members, and university staff, are expected to rally around this cause, making contributions that will drive the project forward.
