SEND-Sierra Leone a non-governmental organization officially registered with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Sierra Leone, has embarked on an journey in the Gboweorbu and Konia communities of Pujehun District, Sierra Leone. Through the installation of solar systems, they are bringing light to households, empowering children to study after sunset, and contributing to a greener future.
Lighting Up Homes and Minds
With the deployment of solar panels, 43 households in these rural communities now have access to clean, reliable electricity. Previously, families relied on kerosene lamps or candles, which posed health risks and limited educational opportunities for children. Now, the flicker of solar-powered bulbs illuminates their homes, creating a safer and more conducive environment for learning.
Enabling Education After Dark
One of the most significant impacts of this initiative is on education. Children can now study at night, extending their learning hours beyond daylight. With improved access to light, their academic prospects have brightened, and dreams of a better future are no longer confined to daytime.
A Step Toward Sustainable Energy
SEND SIERRA LEONE’s project aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable energy for all. By harnessing the abundant solar resources in Sierra Leone, they are reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change. The installation of solar systems not only benefits individual households but also contributes to the country’s overall energy resilience.
The Road Ahead
As the solar panels soak up sunlight during the day, they charge batteries that store energy for nighttime use. This innovative solution ensures uninterrupted power supply, even in remote areas. SEND SIERRA LEONE plans to expand its reach, bringing solar energy to more communities and transforming lives along the way.
In x post, They expressed enthusiasm for the project’s transformative potential: “We have began an incredible journey in Gboweorbu and Konia communities, Pujehun District, toward sustainable energy for all. With @trocaire @Irish_Aid @IrlEmbFreetown, we installed solar systems for 43 households, lighting up lives and enabling children to study at night.”
