Taida Mapara, a 14-year-old girl from Zimbabwe, has made an exceptional achievement by becoming one of the youngest African students to be accepted into a university, specifically the University of Malawi College of Medicine. Taida’s educational progress has been outstanding, as she completed 13 years of the primary and high school program in just 8 years. In June 2020, Taida aced the A’ Level Cambridge examinations with 3 As in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at Hilbright Science College in Zimbabwe.

Since she was young, Taida has aspired to become a medical doctor. Following her impressive academic record, she was accepted to the University of Malawi to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. When asked about her journey, Taida mentioned that listening to people referring to Medicine as a difficult course was what inspired her to study it even more. She believes that if others were able to get through it, then why can’t she?

Taida’s love for learning about the human heart while in high school has also led her to pursue a career in Cardiology. According to her, the heart still fascinates her, and the more she learns about it, the more her interest grows. She chose cardiology because she would love to work in a speciality that focuses on the heart, which she believes would make being a doctor even more interesting and spectacular.
