Open statement
International Youth Day 2024.
Dear fellow young people,
Today, as we celebrate International Youth Day, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible potential that lies within each and every one of us. We are the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of the world, and it’s time we embrace that role.
We live in a country filled with challenges – climate change, inequality, social injustice, bad governance and more. But we also live in a country filled with opportunities – technological advancements, global connections, and a growing recognition of the importance of youth voices.
As young people, we have a unique perspective on the world. We’re not bound by traditional thinking or limited by what’s been done before. We’re free to imagine, to dream, and to create a better future.
But we can’t do it alone. We need support, resources, and opportunities to thrive. We need an education that prepares us for the challenges of the 21st century. We need access to better healthcare that allows us to grow and flourish. And we need economic opportunities that enable us to contribute to our communities.
As a young person myself on this International Youth Day, I want to call on governments, businesses, and organizations to prioritize youth empowerment. Let’s create spaces for young people to lead, to innovate, and to make a difference. Let’s provide the resources and support needed to unlock our potential.
To my fellow young people, I want to say this: believe in yourself. Believe in your power to create change. Don’t be afraid to speak out, to stand up, and to demand a better Sierra Leone.
Let’s work together to address the challenges facing our beautiful country Sierra Leone. Let’s innovate, let’s create, and let’s lead. We are the future, and the future is now, one community at a time. #YouthPower
