In a recent address from the Sierra Leone Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, the Opposition Leader, underscored the importance of national identity over political affiliations. Speaking at a press briefing, Kargbo emphasized that citizens should prioritize their identity as Sierra Leoneans over their alignment with the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) or the All People’s Congress (APC).

Kargbo suggested that many political disputes could be resolved through internal dialogue rather than escalating to the Criminal Investigations Department. He advised that most issues could be managed through discussions between party executives, rather than legal interventions.

Addressing democratic rights, Kargbo affirmed that protesting is a legitimate expression under democracy, provided it follows proper procedures. He urged citizens to adhere to legal channels by notifying the Inspector General of Police and abiding by established rules.

The Opposition Leader highlighted the need for unity among political actors and the public, suggesting that international bodies such as ECOWAS, the Commonwealth, and the African Union (AU) might play a role in mediating political challenges. He acknowledged that some issues might require external assistance to effectively address.

Kargbo also commended the Sierra Leonean government for securing the MCC Compact grant and stressed that a democratic government should be receptive to criticism. He advocated for constructive criticism, noting that while praise should be given for good performance, it is equally important to provide feedback when needed.

In closing, Kargbo reaffirmed the APC’s dedication to promoting sustainable development in Sierra Leone. He emphasized his commitment to resolving the country’s issues through peaceful and constructive dialogue, condemning chaos and advocating for cooperative engagement between SLPP and APC as the path forward.
