The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST), Makeni Campus, has declared a temporary suspension of all student activities, including lectures, in response to unresolved concerns following a critical meeting with key university stakeholders.
The decision came after a roundtable discussion held on Wednesday 16th in the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, involving representatives from the Office of National Security, senior university administrators, the 4th Infantry Battalion Brigade Commander, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Mena, immigration officials, and other relevant parties. The meeting, which lasted from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, aimed to address critical concerns raised by students but failed to yield any concrete resolutions.
In light of the administration’s continued inaction, the SUG has reaffirmed its stance, halting all academic activities, including the release of first semester results, until the administration addresses the concerns in accordance with University Policy Page 144. This policy mandates continuous assessment protocols, ensuring students are evaluated based on their tests, assignments, class participation, and attendance.
The SUG has also issued a directive instructing all students to refrain from attending lectures, warning that failure to comply with this decision may result in further consequences. The union has made it clear that they will continue to stand firm until the administration takes necessary steps to resolve the issues affecting students.
“Despite our continuous efforts to engage the administration, there has been no serious attempt from their side to resolve the pressing issues,” the SUG stated. “We will continue to halt all student activities until we see meaningful action.”
The SUG has reassured students that they remain committed to resolving the situation and will provide timely updates as developments unfold. Students are urged to follow the SUG’s guidance closely, and the suspension will remain in effect until further notice.
For more information and updates, students are advised to stay connected with the SUG’s official communications.
