Sierra Leonean filmmakers are bringing their hard‑hitting political thriller, Bormeh Series, to U.S. audiences. The series—first shown in Freetown this past May—is set to premiere on Sunday, July 13, at the historic Old Greenbelt Theatre in Greenbelt, Maryland. buy  Ticket here

Produced by KID-AFAN FILMS in partnership with Sierraflixx, Bormeh Series explores the rise of a deadly drug cartel known as “Kush”, corruption at the highest levels of government, and the ravaged lives of slum communities in Freetown’s notorious dumpsite region .

A Story Rooted in Real‑Life Turmoil

Directed by the acclaimed duo Chernor Kargbo (Stone) and Idrissa Barry Jalloh, the narrative follows First Lady Antonia Wright—portrayed by Christiana Kamara—a powerful but morally compromised figure whose past and present collide amid suspicions of illicit ties . Supporting performances by John Yemi Ade‑Coker (Ice Bomba) and Seray Timbo depict the intense social fallout inside Freetown’s impoverished communities.

According to lead executive producer, Dr Isatu Kakay‑Diallo and, the series aims to confront contemporary issues—from the Kush epidemic to socio‑economic inequity—and raise global awareness of Sierra Leone’s under-reported struggles .

 

From Freetown to Greenbelt

The series debuted at the Freetown City Council Auditorium on 24 May 2025, drawing acclaim for its bold storytelling and cinematic craft . Sierra Leonean audiences described it as “gritty, bold, and unapologetically real,” while online viewers praised its fast pace and emotional power .
