A young Sierra Leonean, Momoh Mustapha Kamara, has graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom, after a journey marked by personal loss and community support.
Momoh, who lost both parents at an early age, shared his emotional story on LinkedIn, thanking all those who helped him achieve his academic dreams. He described the moment as a “triumph born from adversity” and credited his success to the many people and organisations that stood by him over the years.

One of the first organisations he acknowledged was EducAid Sierra Leone. They supported him during his senior secondary school years, giving him not just access to education but also hope at a time he needed it most.
“They didn’t just provide an education; they gave me a foundation of hope,” Momoh wrote.
He also expressed deep gratitude to Ashinaga UK, whose scholarship enabled him to pursue university studies abroad. “Your scholarship was a profound investment in my future. You opened doors I never thought possible,” he said.
Momoh thanked his university for providing an environment where he could grow and learn, and gave special recognition to his lecturers from the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science, including David Wareing, Imeobong Antia, Roshini Mathews, Peter Abel, David Griffiths, and Clare Lawrence.
He also showed appreciation to a long list of friends, mentors, and fellow scholars who supported him throughout his time abroad. These include Jordan McFarlane, Odinaka Chukwu, Gerard Bohang Namane, Francis Amegbor, Baraka Muhoza, Mohamed Munth Kamara, James Waweru, Sinneh Kamara, S’thandwasenkosi Sibanda, Foday Dampha, and the wider Ashinaga scholar community.
“To everyone who stood by me through thick and thin, your love was the constant fuel that kept me going,” he said.
Momoh ended his message by saying the degree is not just his but belongs to everyone who played a part in his journey. His story stands as a powerful reminder of the impact of community, kindness, and perseverance.
