Sierra Leonean journalist Eric Kawa has joined participants from around the world at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to attend a Masterclass on the Strategic Communication of Land Restoration. The program, which will run for several days, focuses on equipping professionals with advanced skills in communicating complex issues around land restoration, climate change, and sustainability.

Eric expressed his excitement about the opportunity, thanking his uncle, Professor Papa Njai, for facilitating his participation. In a post shared on social media, he also extended gratitude to several global organizations including the G20 Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Youth Caucus, Africa at LSE, and the London School of Economics for making the program possible.
The Masterclass brings together experts, communicators, and young leaders to explore effective messaging strategies aimed at promoting sustainable land management, combating desertification, and raising public awareness on the critical role of land restoration in climate action and food security.
Land degradation continues to pose significant threats to environmental stability and livelihoods globally, particularly in regions like Africa where the effects of climate change are being felt most intensely. Initiatives like this Masterclass are designed to empower a new generation of communicators who can drive global conversations and advocate for sustainable solutions.
Eric Kawa’s participation highlights Sierra Leone’s growing involvement in international climate dialogues and youth engagement platforms, as the country continues to push for sustainable development and environmental protection.
The Masterclass forms part of broader efforts under the G20 Global Land Initiative, which aims to reduce degraded land by 50% by 2040 and strengthen global cooperation on land restoration efforts.
