Renewable energy advocate, entrepreneur, and youth empowerment leader, Samuella Yambasu, has proudly raised the country’s flag on the global stage after attending the World Leaders Convention in Madrid, Spain.
Samuella was the only participant from West Africa at the event, which brought together leaders and experts from over 44 countries to discuss global policy and climate action. She shared her personal story of resilience, patience, and hope during the high-level discussions.

Speaking after the event, Samuella said attending the convention was a defining moment in her life. “Never thought I’d be able to pull this off, but I did,” she said. “From a young age, my goal has always been to make a difference in my own way.”
The journey to get there, however, was not easy. With no visa services available in Sierra Leone, Samuella had to travel twice by road to neighbouring Guinea to apply for a visa. She faced long hours of travel, challenges at the border, and even confrontations before she was finally allowed through.
Despite being scared and anxious, she stood on the global stage in Europe and shared her story with decision-makers and visionaries from across the world.
“I left that space feeling inspired, hopeful, and even more confident in my purpose,” she said.
Samuella believes renewable energy is the future and says her journey is just beginning. She thanked the Organization for Global Policy and Dialogue for the opportunity to be part of the international convention.
Her story has already inspired many young Sierra Leoneans, proving that with determination, even the most difficult goals can be achieved.
