Parliament has commended QCell Sierra Leone for maintaining affordable and quality mobile services at a time when many citizens are worried about rising communication costs.
The praise came from the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transparency and Accountability, Hon. Maada Labbie of Bo District, during a joint oversight session held with the Committee on Communication. The meeting brought together Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to discuss the recent surge in tariffs that has triggered nationwide concern.
Hon. Labbie noted that while several operators have increased their prices, QCell has remained consistent and compliant, keeping its tariffs within a range that ordinary Sierra Leoneans can afford.
“QCell has been one of the most compliant and people-centred operators since it started operations in Sierra Leone,” he said. “They have kept their data, voice, and SMS charges affordable, reducing pressure on students, workers, traders, and others who rely on communication every day. At a time when telecom access is seen as a basic need, QCell has shown real commitment to the people of this country.”
The parliamentary committees are expected to continue their engagement with mobile operators as part of efforts to ensure fair pricing and stronger consumer protection across the telecommunications sector.
