Empowered by funding from Defense for Children international Sierra Leone, over 50 young activists from the Mano River Youth Network Sierra Leone (MaRiYoNet-SL) and Girls Parliament are driving a transformative initiative across 10 communities. Their mission: to sustain and amplify the participation of young girls and women in leadership and decision-making processes. With this support, they are actively engaging an estimated population of 3,500 people, pushing forward the agenda of gender equality and inclusion.

This initiative, powered by the commitment of these young activists and the backing of Defense for Children international Sierra Leone, employs a unique approach that combines physical activity with advocacy. The series of jogs through various communities (Kambia District) symbolizes the continuous and determined effort required to ensure that women and girls are not just participants but leaders in the decision-making fabric of their societies. As they jog, these activists connect with community members, sparking crucial conversations about the need for greater female representation in leadership roles.

The funding from Defense for Children Sierra Leone has been instrumental in providing the resources necessary for the success of this initiative. It has enabled the young activists to expand their reach, engage more communities, and ensure that the message of inclusion is not only heard but acted upon. Through this collaboration, MaRiYoNet-SL and Girls Parliament are not only advocating for change but also setting a precedent for how youth-led movements can effectively drive social transformation with the right support.

This initiative is already making waves within the communities involved, challenging existing gender norms and paving the way for a future where young girls and women can lead with confidence and purpose. As the movement continues to grow, it serves as a powerful example of what can be achieved when young people are given the tools and support, they need to make a difference.
