A local charity group, We Yone Child Foundation, has launched a new education project in Kamabain Village, Karene District, aimed at improving learning conditions for vulnerable children in the community.

The project, which is being funded by the Dutch-based Wegdam Foundation, will see the construction of six classrooms, an administrative office, and proper Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) facilities. More than 115 children from Kamabain and nearby communities are expected to benefit from the development.

According to the foundation, the goal of the project is to create a safe, clean, and supportive learning environment where children can study comfortably and improve their future opportunities. Many of the children in the area currently learn in overcrowded or poorly equipped spaces, making education difficult.

Speaking through a public statement, We Yone Child Foundation described the project as a major step toward supporting vulnerable children and strengthening access to quality education in rural communities.

“This project is about giving children a better chance in life by providing them with a proper place to learn, grow, and feel safe,” the foundation noted.

Community members in Kamabain Village have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the new classrooms and facilities will improve school attendance and learning outcomes.

The foundation also called on individuals, organisations, and partners to support similar initiatives through its “Adopt a Project” campaign, which aims to expand educational and child welfare projects across Sierra Leone.

Education advocates say such projects are critical in rural areas where infrastructure challenges continue to affect children’s access to quality schooling.

Construction is expected to progress in phases as funding and community support continue to grow.
