Miriam Mason, Country Director of EducAid Sierra Leone, has marked 25 years of living and working in the country.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Mason reflected on her journey since moving to Sierra Leone, describing it as a time filled with both joy and pain. “My naivety was ridiculous but my commitment was real,” she wrote. “So much has happened – it has been such an enormous journey of learning and unlearning.”
Over the past two and a half decades, she has worked with thousands of young people across Sierra Leone through the EducAid network. Some students were with her briefly, while others have been part of her life for many years. She described her experience as a mix of “wonderful moments” and “heartbreaking moments.”
Mason also expressed deep gratitude to all those who supported her along the way. “A huge thank you to all who have welcomed me into your home and helped make it mine too, especially to my amazing EducAid family,” she said.
She ended her message with a hopeful note: “May the next 25 years be just as exciting and rewarding! (Oh! and may I get my SL passport!!).”
