Sierra Leone’s music and youth activism community is mourning the death of Freezo, a young artist and leader who passed away early this morning.
Freezo was a member of the Red Flag Movement RFM and worked closely with LAJ, the Chief Executive Officer of the movement. To many young people who knew him through music, activism, and community work, his death came as a shock.
In addition to his involvement with RFM, Freezo had been the President of the Artists’ Union in Hastings, Freetown. He was known for fighting the cause of young artists, calling for unity, and being one voice through music to speak about their concerns and current events. Many artists in Hastings and nearby communities describe him as committed, approachable, and deeply passionate about youth development.
Following the news of his passing, LAJ took to Facebook to express his grief about his death and other Sierra Leoneans raise concern about a wider issue affecting the country. They asked the question of why so many youths in the country of Sierra Leone are dying at such an alarming rate. They pointed out that the death of Freezo is simply one in a series affecting the nation.
Freezo’s death has brought up discussions on the issues that the young generation faces in Sierra Leone, which range from health issues to economic struggles, stress, and the absence of a proper support mechanism.
