From January 14 to 16, 2026, the town of Kabala in Koinadugu District will come alive with one of the biggest education and community events in the country — the National Science and Leadership Festival, organized by Project 1808, Inc. and Koinadugu College.
The three-day event is a free, family-friendly festival that brings together young people, teachers, professionals, and community leaders to learn, connect, and innovate. It will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Environment, Arts, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEEAMM) alongside Leadership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and African Culture.
Under the theme “STEEAMM and Leadership: Breaking Barriers – Building on the African Cultural Foundation for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sustainability, Research, and Development in Sierra Leone and Africa,” this year’s festival promises to be bigger than ever before.
Organizers say the goal is to promote local leadership, encourage creativity, and use science and culture to improve life in communities. The festival also pushes for democratizing and decolonizing science and leadership by using local knowledge systems and empowering people through education and innovation.
“We believe science and technology are key to improving lives, but it must be rooted in our own culture and leadership,” a spokesperson from Project 1808 said.
The festival welcomes students, volunteers, teachers, influencers, innovators, and anyone interested in learning and community development. Activities will include workshops, exhibitions, community discussions, and cultural showcases.
