Freetown, Sierra Leone – October 8, 2024: In a ceremony held at State House earlier today, Ms. Claudina Ayo Cole, recently appointed as The Gambia’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, formally presented her letter of credence to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.

The veteran educator and former Gambian Minister of Education expressed deep gratitude and a profound sense of belonging during the event. Speaking on behalf of President Adama Barrow, Ms. Cole conveyed the Gambian President’s message of goodwill to President Bio, reinforcing the importance of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

In her remarks, High Commissioner Cole emphasized the historical ties between The Gambia and Sierra Leone, stating that the relationship transcends diplomacy, rooted in shared colonial history and cultural connections. She highlighted the peak of the sisterly bond between the two West African countries, noting that the relationship has never been stronger.

“The historic roots that bind our countries are profound and enduring. We share more than just diplomatic relations; we share a connection that dates back centuries,” Ms. Cole remarked. She further pledged to work tirelessly in her role as High Commissioner to deepen these bonds and foster even closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

President Julius Maada Bio warmly welcomed Ms. Cole, affirming Sierra Leone’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening the cordial ties with The Gambia. He praised the long-standing friendship between the two nations and expressed confidence that under her leadership, the bilateral relations would continue to flourish.
