Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh, has said the views of legal professionals will play an important role in the ongoing process to amend the country’s constitution.

Sengeh made the remarks after an evening meeting with the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Tuma Jabbi Gento-Kamara, where they discussed the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Act, 2025.

In a statement shared after the engagement, the Chief Minister described the discussion as inspiring and productive, praising Gento-Kamara’s deep understanding of the constitutional amendment process and her commitment to ensuring that the perspectives of lawyers are properly captured.

He said the Bar Association leadership has been actively working to strengthen the institution through capacity building, financial sustainability and investment initiatives aimed at supporting lawyers across the country.

Sengeh noted that he is keen to see the Bar Association’s input reflected in the amendment process, stressing the importance of inclusive consultations as the country reviews its constitutional framework.

The constitution amendment bill is part of broader governance reforms, with stakeholders expected to contribute views before it is finalised and presented for further legislative action.
