Chidi Blyden, a Sierra Leonean and American citizen, has been named one of the winners of the Global South–EU Women in Institutional Leadership Award.
Blyden, who once served as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs, is being recognised for her strong contribution to global peace, international security, and her efforts in building partnerships between Africa and the rest of the world.
The award will be presented at the European Parliament during the EuropAfricaInvestment 2026 Forum. The event is organised by Credassur Group Europe under the patronage of the European Parliament, with support from the Renew Europe political group.
Currently, Blyden is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal of CulturallyBound, where she continues to work on strengthening ties between Africa and global partners.
Organisers of the award also thanked His Excellency Ali Yakoub Mahamoud, the African Union Representative to the European Union, for nominating Blyden. They said his support has helped to promote stronger social and economic dialogue between Africa and Europe.
Blyden’s recognition highlights the growing role of African women in global leadership and decision-making spaces. Her work continues to inspire many young Africans, especially women, who are looking to make an impact in international affairs.
