By the provisional annual report on vital events released at the end of December 2025, the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has recorded a total number of 306,057 live births across Sierra Leone.
Of this, 149,968 were males, 49 percent, and 156,089 were females, accounting for 51 percent. The information puts the national sex ratio at 96, indicating that there were slightly higher numbers of female births than male births in the period under review.
In addition to the above, the Authority recorded 3,739 stillbirths in the entire country. Although the causes of such were not segmented, the figure sure underlines the need for continuing improvement in maternal health care, access to skilled birth attendants, and strengthening antenatal services, especially in rural areas.

It says that birth registration provides the leeway for national planning, access to education and healthcare, and legal identity. Again, the Authority urges parents and guardians to have births registered on time to ensure proper records of the population for proper policy formulation.
