Managing Editor of Calabash Newspaper, Amin Kef, has described his visit to India’s iconic Taj Mahal as a breathtaking and unforgettable experience.
Kef was part of a 27-member journalist delegation drawn from West Africa, Central Africa and Pacific Oceania on a familiarisation visit to India. He said one of the highlights of the trip was touring the historic city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
Agra is globally known as the “City of Love” and a former capital of the Mughal Empire. Kef said standing before the white marble monument built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, was a powerful moment.
He also noted that beyond the Taj Mahal, Agra is home to other UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, which reflect the city’s rich history and architectural heritage.
According to Kef, the cultural experience was further enriched by Agra’s local traditions, famous sweets such as Petha, handcrafted products and vibrant markets.
Despite experiencing an intense cold wave during the visit, the journalist said the trip was rewarding and educational.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing the journey as a valuable learning experience and one filled with lasting memories.
