The High Commission of India in Freetown has marked World No Tobacco Day 2026 with a strong message against tobacco use and a call for healthier living.
On the occasion, Mr. Neeraj Kumar Saini, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the High Commission of India in Sierra Leone, led officials in taking an anti-tobacco pledge. The ceremony took place at the High Commission in Freetown.
The pledge was aimed at strengthening commitment among staff to avoid tobacco use and to promote a healthier, tobacco-free future. Officials said the move reflects a shared responsibility to protect health and raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco.
Mr. Saini encouraged staff and the wider public to make positive lifestyle choices that support better health and well-being. He stressed that awareness and education are key tools in reducing tobacco use in communities.
World No Tobacco Day is observed globally each year to highlight the health risks linked to tobacco consumption and to encourage governments, organizations, and individuals to take action against it.
The High Commission said it remains committed to supporting awareness efforts and promoting healthy living among its staff and the wider community.
The event in Freetown adds to global efforts marking the day under the theme of building a healthier and tobacco-free future for all.
