Tombo has reason to celebrate. Tombo Stars FC have won the Inter Community Football Gala 2025/2026, walking away as champions of a competition that carries a prize of One Hundred and Twenty Million Leones and means everything to the communities of the Western Area Peninsula.
The final was played between Tombo Stars and Mama Beach Stars two rival communities whose football rivalry runs deep. The first leg of the final could not be completed properly after it ended in chaos, and the match had to be postponed. When the two sides met again on May 8, 2026 at the Tombo playing field, everything came down to a penalty shootout. That was when the Tombo Stars goalkeeper rose to the occasion, pulling off a crucial save that swung the momentum firmly in Tombo’s favour. Then came the moment everyone will be talking about Oga Musa stepped up and slotted home the final penalty to seal the win and send the Tombo crowd into a frenzy.
It was a deserved victory for a community that has always believed in its football.
The Inter Community Football Gala is organised every year by the Peninsula Big Boyz, bringing together nearby communities to compete at the Tombo playing field. It is more than just a local competition. Over the years, the gala has been a launching pad for real talent several players who were first spotted at this competition have gone on to play in the Sierra Leone Premier League and other leagues across Africa. That is the kind of platform this gala has become, and that is exactly why winning it means so much.
Tombo has always had young talent. The community is home to the Craig Bellamy Foundation Football Academy, which has been developing boys and girls to international standard since 2008. The roots of football here go deep, and every year this gala gives another generation of young players the chance to show what they are made of.
