A student of Central University, Rugiatu Barrie, is representing Sierra Leone at the Women Deliver Conference 2026 currently taking place in Melbourne, Australia. Her participation is seen as a major achievement for both her university and the country, as she joins global leaders, activists, and young changemakers working on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Speaking about the experience, Rugiatu shared her excitement through her Impact Cycle platform, saying the journey means more than personal success.

“From Sierra Leone to Melbourne. This journey is bigger than me—it’s about purpose, growth, and representing where I come from on a global stage,” she said.

The Women Deliver Conference is one of the world’s largest global gatherings focused on advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and social justice. It brings together girls, women, youth leaders, policymakers, and development partners to review progress, identify challenges, and push for stronger action.

The 2026 edition is jointly led by the Population Council GIRL Center and Women Deliver, along with more than 20 partner organizations. This year’s discussions focus on evidence-based solutions that support girls’ rights, leadership, and overall wellbeing.

Key topics include climate justice, artificial intelligence and technology, girl-led advocacy, and sustainable development. The outcomes are expected to contribute to a global call for action aimed at strengthening accountability and improving opportunities for adolescent girls worldwide.

Central University has also expressed pride in Rugiatu Barrie’s representation, describing it as a strong reflection of the institution’s commitment to empowering students to achieve excellence on both national and international platforms.
