A delegation from Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has paid a courtesy visit to QCell Sierra Leone as part of ongoing regional telecom engagements in Freetown.

The visit took place during a regional meeting hosted by the National Communications Authority (NatCA), bringing together regulators and industry stakeholders from across West Africa.

Discussions at the meeting focused on improving cross-border connectivity, harmonising telecom regulations, and advancing regional roaming services. These efforts are in line with broader goals by ECOWAS to strengthen cooperation and improve communication services across member states.

During the visit, PURA officials met with the management of QCell Sierra Leone to exchange ideas on innovation, service delivery, and the future of telecommunications in the region.

The Director General of PURA praised QCell for its growth and contribution to Sierra Leone’s telecom sector. He said the company’s expansion from The Gambia into Sierra Leone shows strong African-led investment and supports regional integration. He added that QCell continues to play an important role in providing affordable and reliable communication services.

QCell, a Gambian-owned telecom company, has become a key player in Sierra Leone, offering voice, data, and digital services while also contributing to job creation and infrastructure development.

The PURA Director General encouraged the company to continue improving service quality, expanding its network, and driving innovation. He stressed that strong cooperation between regulators and telecom operators is important for building a competitive and consumer-focused sector.

In response, QCell management thanked the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting national development and aligning with regional standards. They also expressed readiness to work closely with regulators and stakeholders to improve services and support regional integration.

The visit ended on a positive note, highlighting growing ties between The Gambia and Sierra Leone in the telecom sector and a shared goal of building a more connected and digitally inclusive West Africa.
