The Sierra Leone High Commission UK has held a strategic meeting with Sierra Leonean alumni groups in the United Kingdom to strengthen support for the country’s education sector.

The engagement took place at the Chancery building in Holborn, bringing together senior officials including Yvonne King Odigboh and Juliana Sia Hawa Fallah, alongside representatives from 21 Sierra Leonean alumni associations across the UK.

The meeting focused on how diaspora groups can play a stronger role in supporting education development in Sierra Leone. Discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing challenges within the sector and finding practical ways to improve learning conditions in schools.

Education remains a key priority under the leadership of Julius Maada Bio, with government efforts aimed at restoring the country’s reputation as a leading centre of learning in West Africa.

Participants at the meeting shared ideas on how alumni associations can expand their contributions through fundraising, partnerships, and targeted support for schools. They also discussed issues such as disability inclusion and the need for more coordinated efforts between the diaspora and government institutions.

Officials described the engagement as productive, noting that alumni groups in the UK continue to play an important role in national development through their ongoing support to schools in Sierra Leone.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from both the High Commission and alumni representatives to deepen cooperation and drive meaningful progress in the country’s education sector.
