Sierra Leone’s squash administrator Baseem Mohammed has been elected Vice President for West and Central Africa in the regional squash federation, marking a major achievement for the country in international sports leadership.
Mohammed, who is the current head of the Sierra Leone Squash Association, won the position during a regional election held on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. He secured 13 votes out of 18 cast, defeating Nigeria’s Sunday Wilson Egberipou, who received five votes. A total of 18 member countries took part in the voting out of 21 eligible nations.
His election is seen as an important step for the development of squash in Sierra Leone and the West and Central African region. Sports officials say the new role will give Sierra Leone a stronger voice in decisions affecting the growth of the sport across Africa.
Baseem Mohammed has been actively involved in promoting squash in Sierra Leone for several years. Under his leadership, the Sierra Leone Squash Association has organised school tournaments, training programs, and development activities aimed at increasing participation in the sport.
The West and Central Africa Squash Federation works with national associations to promote the sport, support competitions, and strengthen cooperation among member countries.
Sports stakeholders in Sierra Leone have welcomed Mohammed’s victory, saying the appointment will help create more opportunities for local players and improve the country’s presence in international squash.
