Professor Alhaji U. Njai has received the Academic Collaborator Award from the Sierra Leone Urban Research Centre (SLURC) during the organisation’s 10-year anniversary celebration in Freetown.
The award was presented in recognition of his scholarly partnership and research collaboration with SLURC, especially in work focused on urban development, public health, and building resilient communities in Sierra Leone.
Professor Njai said he was honoured to receive the recognition and described his collaboration with SLURC as an important effort to improve the lives of people living in informal settlements in Freetown.
According to him, the partnership has focused on research and capacity building aimed at addressing the health and well-being of residents while promoting stronger and more resilient urban communities.
The Sierra Leone Urban Research Centre (SLURC), based in Freetown, is an international research centre formed through a partnership between the Bartlett Development Planning Unit at University College London and the Institute of Geography and Development Studies at Njala University.
Officials at the anniversary event said the award was given to recognise Professor Njai’s contribution to academic research, community engagement, and support for projects that promote sustainable urban development.
Professor Njai thanked the leadership of SLURC for the recognition and said he looks forward to continued collaboration on research that will positively impact communities across Sierra Leone.
