APC Could Be Suspended Tomorrow: See Why

The All People’s Congress (APC) could face suspension as early as tomorrow if it fails to pay outstanding fines or challenge them in court before the end of today, according to the Chairman of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), Emmanuel Koivaya Amara.

Speaking on Truth Media’s Morning Devotion, Amara said the APC was fined by the PPRC seven days ago but has yet to make any payment or take formal legal steps to contest the decision. He stated that no court documents have been served on the commission and that no official communication has been received from the party since the fines were issued.

According to the PPRC chairman, the penalties relate to violations connected to the APC’s mammoth meeting at Attouga Stadium as well as issues involving Zainab Sheriff. He explained that the commission had expected some form of engagement from the party, even if payment was not immediately possible.

Amara revealed that he personally spoke with APC executives on the matter. He said the commission would have been willing to show flexibility if the party had formally written to explain financial difficulties and requested more time. “If they had at least written a letter to say they do not currently have the money and asked for time, we would have understood and given them time,” he said.

He stressed that regulatory compliance is not optional and that the PPRC cannot ignore breaches simply because a political party fails to respond. In the absence of payment or a court challenge, he warned, the commission would be left with no choice but to enforce the law, which includes suspension.

In a sense, the remark has sparked political interest on the APC’s relations with the electoral authorities. At the same time, the activities and events of the party remain under close scrutiny. At present, there has not been a reaction from the APC on the latest warning by the PPRC.

Given that the deadline is set for today, the next action of the APC will decide the fate of the country’s main opposition political party to be either suspended from political activities under the PPRC Act.
