Guinea’s President, Mamady Doumbouya, has lodged his declaration of assets with the Supreme Court in accordance with the country’s Constitution.
This declaration was lodged on Thursday, January 22, 2026, just days after his official inauguration on January 17, 2026. Article 60 of Guinea’s Constitution states that any sitting President has to declare his personal assets within ten days of assuming office.
President Doumbouya is currently the President of Guinea and also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Mamadi Doumbouya was first propelled to national limelight in September 2021 when he staged a coup d’etat against then-President Alpha Condé, who was ousted from office.
At the time, Mamadi Doumbouya was a senior military officer in Guinea’s special forces. After staging the coup d’etat, he became the head of Guinea’s transitional government. He promised to restore order, reform state institutions, and eventually return the country to civilian rule through elections.
During the transition period, the military government introduced constitutional reforms and pledged to organize national elections after years of political tension and disputed governance under the previous administration.
After the transition period, Guinea organized presidential elections, which Mamadi Doumbouya contested. He emerged victorious and was later sworn in as the country’s elected president in January 2026.
His inauguration signifies Guinea’s return to constitutional rule after several years of transition rule. His election is seen as a vote of confidence in his leadership, but his detractors continue to advocate for stronger democratic institutions in the country.
The declaration of assets is perceived by many as a symbolic move aimed at demonstrating a commitment to respecting the rule of law and winning over public trust in government institutions. The issue of transparency concerning the assets of public officials has been a major issue of concern for Guinea over the decades.

By acting on the constitutional provision shortly after his ascension to power, President Doumbouya appears to be sending a message that he is a leader who is willing to adhere to legal processes.
The extent to which this move translates into meaningful reforms on governance and accountability is an issue that will be watched closely by the people of Guinea and the rest of the West African region.
