Controversial Nigerian journalist and blogger Olukemi “Kemi” Omololu-Olunloyo has been in the news again, this time for making a series of serious allegations against Afrobeats superstar Davido on her Facebook page Kemi Talks.

In her post, Kemi accused Davido of being a cultist, a juju man, and a narco-trafficker, and that these actions caused tragedies in his life. She also claimed that pilots refused to fly Davido’s family private jet because of supposed drugs onboard. The post also claims that there is a connection between Davido and a person in Zimbabwe who has a warrant of arrest in Nigeria.

However, there is nothing to support such serious allegations in mainstream sources. Moreover, Davido has previously denied similar allegations in the past, and his reaction is a good example of how baseless rumors can go viral on social media.

For instance, in 2024, a Kenyan media house carried a story about the arrest of Davido for drug-related crimes when traces of cocaine were discovered in his private jet. Davido reacted to the story by denying it on social media platforms, insisting that he had never been arrested for any crime in the whole world. He also said he completed scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya before returning safely to Nigeria. Kenyan police later labelled the report “fake news,” and the media outlet retracted the story. Davido said his legal team would pursue action against those responsible for spreading the false report.

Davido’s real name is David Adedeji Adeleke. In fact, he is one of the most successful musicians in Africa. The artist has won many awards such as the NAACP Award in 2025. He has also performed on global stages. This is a result of his collaboration with various musicians from across the world.

Although very popular, some rumors have been associated with Davido’s career. Some claims have been fact-checked by various fact-checking institutions, such as claims of being arrested and engaging in criminal acts.

It also merits a mention that there are differences between allegations that are not verified and facts that have been reported. Influencers on social platforms can post opinions or allegations that have not yet been reported as facts. In this case, allegations levied against Davido by Kemi Olunloyo are not verified allegations since Davido has in the past denied similar allegations.

Amidst the continued conversation on social media platforms, many people are actually advising against irresponsible reporting or the spread of unsubstantiated allegations concerning public figures. Readers are consequently urged to consult mainstream news sources when assessing claims.
