More than 50 youth-led, girl-led and women-led groups have completed a five-day training on strengthening their organisations and improving advocacy against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The training, held in Makeni and funded by Iceland through UNFPA Sierra Leone, forms part of efforts to accelerate the end of FGM in the country.
Participants received lessons on governance, leadership, financial management, advocacy, disability inclusion, project planning, digital communication and mental health. The programme also featured panel discussions, group work and Facebook Live sessions linked to the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
A key milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the groups to improve collaboration and joint advocacy.
GYNED and UNFPA say the training strengthens grassroots movements and supports long-term national development by empowering young women and girls.
