A High Court in Freetown has sentenced a Nigerian national, Iwuchukwu Ebere Christian, to 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of unlawfully possessing 900 grams of cocaine.
The sentence was handed down by Hon. Justice Mark Ngegba, who ruled that the offence violated Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008.
According to the court, Christian, who is from Imo State, Nigeria, was arrested with the cocaine and brought before the High Court to answer to the charge of unlawful possession. After reviewing the evidence, Justice Ngegba found him guilty and imposed the 30-year jail term.
The ruling forms part of Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and illegal drug possession across the country.
