Sierra Leonean innovator Kelvin Doe has announced a major robotics tournament for basic and senior secondary school pupils in the country, describing it as “big education news for Mama Salone.”

The tournament will bring together student teams to build their own do-it-yourself (DIY) robot cars and program them using the Arduino IDE. The aim is to help young people learn science, technology and problem-solving skills in a fun and practical way.

Doe said the initiative is inspired by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group’s “4Ps” of learning — projects, peers, passion and play. The tournament will be held in a playful and collaborative environment, where pupils can learn from one another while competing.

The project is being supported by the Society of The Creative School, which is working with the Kelvin Doe Foundation to make the event a reality.

Kelvin Doe is calling on individuals, companies and organisations to support the tournament. Those interested in sponsoring can contact the team via email at kelvindoefoundation@kelvindoe.com
