The Koya Queens Football Club is preparing for a critical stage in their medical care as players and officials injured in Saturday’s devastating road accident are scheduled to undergo X-ray examinations today. The tests mark the next step in assessing the full extent of injuries sustained during the team’s trip to Kenema, where they had been traveling for their Week 3 fixture in the Marampa Mines Women’s Premier League.

The crash, which occurred along the highway on their way to face Kahunla Queens FC, left the entire football community shaken. What began as a routine journey for a league match suddenly turned into a scene of fear and confusion, with players and staff trapped inside a damaged vehicle, many of them badly hurt.

According to the Sierra Leone Football Association, every member of the delegation received prompt medical attention shortly after being transported to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown. Medical teams worked through the evening, treating wounds, stabilizing the victims, and identifying those who required closer monitoring.

Six individuals remain admitted at the hospital for continued observation and care. Their condition has not been described in detail, but doctors say the decision to keep them admitted was made out of caution. Others whose injuries were less severe have already been discharged and allowed to return home after receiving appropriate treatment.

Today’s X-ray examinations will help determine whether any internal or skeletal injuries were missed during the first round of assessments. It is anticipated that both discharged and admitted patients will be part of the X-ray study to ensure that all players and staff are thoroughly examined.

The team’s accident has drawn widespread sympathy from fans and the wider sporting community, with many referring to the incident as a painful reminder of the challenges athletes face while traveling for competition in the country.

For now, football takes a backseat. Healing and support are now the focus. The SLFA has pledged to stand with the Koya Queens through each step of their recovery process, reassuring families and supporters that the players will indeed have access to the finest care available.
