The Anti-Corruption Commission’s North-East Regional Office has returned a government motorbike to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education after recovering it from a retired staff member in Makeni.

The motorbike, registered ARL 571, had been in the possession of Charles Wilson, a former District Literacy Officer under the Ministry’s Non-Formal Education Department. Wilson retired more than a year ago but reportedly did not hand over the bike as required.

Acting on intelligence, investigators from the ACC traced and retrieved the motorbike on 13 November 2025. A brief handover ceremony followed at the ACC regional office on Monday, 17 November.

Speaking at the event, the ACC Regional Director, Fatu Florence Kamara, underscored good governance measures in protecting public property and ensuring continued collaboration between oversight institutions and government ministries. She said the Commission was still steadfast to ensure that the misuse of public resources would not happen, and she called on ministries, departments, and agencies to embrace tighter asset-management practices.

Bombali District Deputy Director of MBSSE, Lahai Feika, welcomed the intervention. He stated that the ministry had made several unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the motorbike, even as the Non-Formal Education Department continued to struggle with transportation challenges. He expressed appreciation for the ACC’s support and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Commission.

ACC Regional Manager Al-Hassan Sesay, who chaired the event, encouraged the ministry to strengthen its internal controls to avoid similar lapses. He added that, although the retrieval had posed challenges, the Commission was pleased to secure the motorbike and return it to government use. He urged that the bike be reserved strictly for official assignments.

The ceremony concluded with Director Kamara handing over the motorbike key to Deputy Director Feika, witnessed by staff from both institutions.
