The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is supporting the Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat in a nationwide effort to raise public awareness about the newly introduced electoral legislative amendments recommended by the Cross-Party Committee.
The initiative, now rolling out across districts, brings together political parties, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, women’s groups, youth networks, and persons with disabilities to deepen understanding of the reforms and build national trust in the Tripartite process.
According to officials, the district-level sensitization sessions are designed to promote transparency and ensure citizens clearly understand the changes being proposed to strengthen Sierra Leone’s electoral system.
Traditional leaders and community stakeholders have welcomed the engagement, describing it as an important step toward restoring public confidence and strengthening inclusive democratic participation.
The UNDP says it will continue supporting partners to ensure the reforms are widely understood and implemented in ways that protect fairness and inclusion across the country.
The sensitization campaign is expected to continue in the coming weeks as the Tripartite process moves into its next phase.
