Sierra Leone’s football community is mourning the death of Bureh Ganso Koroma, a young player whose promising career was cut short months after he suffered a head injury while on national team duty.

Koroma sustained the injury during a friendly match involving the national team and Mighty Blackpool. He was attended to at the time, but the extent of the trauma later became a growing concern. According to those familiar with his condition, he had been out of play for nearly four months as he continued to struggle with complications linked to the original injury.

Most of the head injuries in football require careful scans, and specialist evaluation, because even mild trauma may be followed by delayed symptoms. In Koroma’s case, the after-effects became noticeable long after the incident. His health continued to deteriorate despite attempts to monitor his recovery process.

His sudden death has sent shockwaves in the football community. Teammates, coaches, supporters, and family members are grappling with the loss of a young man described as dedicated, disciplined, and deeply passionate about the sport he loved.

Koroma’s passing has also stirred quiet concern about the safety of players and the need for strengthened medical attention during competitive and training duties. For many who watched him rise through the ranks, his death feels especially heartbreaking because it followed an injury sustained while proudly serving the national colors.

Friends and former colleagues recall him as a diligent athlete whose dream was to have a lasting career in football. Off the pitch, he was described as a caring son and a reliable member of his community.
