Happening: 6th National Girls Summit Brings Together 500 Girls for Four Days of Learning and Leadership
The 6th Edition of the National Girls Summit has officially opened in Sierra Leone, bringing together 500 girls and young women from all 16 districts of the country, along with delegates from Liberia.
The four-day event aims to inspire, educate, and connect young women through learning, leadership, and sisterhood.
This year’s summit uses a camp model, giving participants a safe and vibrant space to live, learn, and grow together. Throughout the summit, the girls will take part in a range of activities — from early morning reflections to evening fireside conversations. These sessions are designed to build confidence, courage, and creativity among the participants, helping them unlock their full potential.
The summit is more than just discussions. It is a call to action — to continue creating change in communities, chiefdoms, and across borders. Organisers say the goal is to empower girls to take the lead in shaping a more inclusive and equal future.
The event is supported by several partners, including UNFPA Sierra Leone, UNICEF Sierra Leone, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, Save the Children Sierra Leone, Global Youth Network for Empowerment & Development – Sierra Leone, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development, Africell Sierra Leone, Purposeful, Embassy of Iceland in Freetown, AHF Sierra Leone, and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs.
The summit runs for four days and is expected to end with renewed commitments to supporting girls’ voices, power, and future.
